FREE Training - It's possible with the Partnership Programme
At the very least you'll end up with the highest possible quality of training for medical professionals at the lowest possible cost – we defy you to find it lower, anywhere, no matter how suspect the provider!
In a nutshell
The Partnership Programme is designed to lower training costs through shared risk, shared benefit. In fact, if you know you need the training, there is no risk element. It works like this:
- You book an in-house training course for 5 people at £750 + VAT for a single day course, choosing any of our programmes
- You can add more internal attendees at just £100 + VAT per person
- Spare course places are marketed by us as part of our Open Course schedule, with every booking resulting in a reduction in your costs of £100 + VAT
- So, if you decide to make 10 places available to outside parties (all NHS, of course), then you could potentially receive £1,000 off your fees and expenses – a profit, no less!
There are some small extra costs, including:
- Travel expenses based on 45p per mile for course facilitator/ trainer, round trip from our East Midlands base
- Venue and catering are provided by you for all participants (or can be organised by us and charged as expenses) – most people use their postgrad centre
- We provide LCD projector if there isn't one available at no extra charge
The benefits are considerable
You can probably see them already but just in case:
- Your own course in your own location – no travel hassles or costs
- The training is potentially free, assuming we manage to sell the spare places, or at least the lowest possible costs imaginable
- A maximum cost per person of £150 + VAT in the unlikely event that NO spare places are sold – which still remains the lowest rate around
Who does it serve best?
Here's a variety of the situations we have been engaged or are aware of in:
- A group of 5 colleagues with the same training needs wanting to save money
- A department head wanting to provide training to department staff in the most cost-effective way
- A department wanting to arrange a series of courses (a following on sequence of development) for staff but without spending huge sums
- A training department with a small number of requests for a specific course wanting to make it available cost-effectively
- A specialist group with links to other similar specialists (allowing us to tailor it to their specialist requirements)
- An entrepreneurial individual who wants to maximise the reach of his training budget
We are sure there are many more reasons too.
Many ways to make it cost-effective
The Partnership Programme proves an extremely popular approach to providing high quality training at the lowest possible cost per head. It is made possible through us offering spare places on your course as open course places to other professionals in the NHS, as part of our normal open course schedule. Here is all the information on costs with examples.
A standard, in-house course for up to 20 people i.e. not Partnership Programme
This is charged as follows:
- £1,650 + VAT course fees, including all materials
- Travel expenses based on 45p per mile for course facilitator/ trainer, round trip from our East Midlands base
- Venue and catering provided by you (or can be organised by us and charged as expenses)
- We provide LCD projector if there isn't one available
This is a cost-effective way of organising training for groups of internal staff, especially where you wish us to focus on specific issues pertinent to your own service. It results in a per person cost as low as approx. £80 + VAT but no spare places are marketed. However, if you have close links with a large group and want to make the course specifically yours e.g. The St Elsewhere Trust Time Management Programme, then spare places can be offered. We can set the course up on our system so that external delegates can book on directly, including collection of the fees you decide to charge. We can offset these fees against your costs directly and simply invoice you the difference. We would provide you with information to circulate and a URL link directly to the course page allowing them to book. The system would then handle all of their administration without you having to do anything. We can do this equally for your staff, so that rather than having to administer the course, it is all done by us. We simply keep you aware of the numbers.
By tailoring the course specifically e.g. Time Management for Cardiologists, you create an added value course which is more likely to attract specialists.
Partnership Programme
This is charged as follows:
- £750 + VAT course fees including all materials for 5 people
- Further internal attendees are charged at £100 + VAT per person
- Travel expenses based on 45p per mile for course facilitator/ trainer, round trip from our East Midlands base
- Venue and catering provided by you (or can be organised by us and charged as expenses)
- We provide LCD projector if there isn't one available
- Spare course places are marketed by us as part of our Open Course schedule, with every booking resulting in a reduction in your costs of £100 + VAT
This is best examined as examples:
EXAMPLE 1
Based on 5 internal staff attending, with up to 15 places offered through our Open Course Schedule. Let's assume we successfully fill either 5 or 10 further places.
Based on 5 places filled, your costs would be
- £750 + VAT basic course fee
- Catering for 11 people (5 internal participants, 5 external NHS participants, 1 trainer)
- Expenses for the trainer
- Any venue costs you are charged (most people are utilising postgraduate facilities)
- You receive £500 in fees resulting from the external participants
- Total course cost is thus £250 + VAT + expenses, or £50 + VAT per internal person
Based on 10 places filled, your costs would be
- £750 + VAT basic course fee
- Catering for 16 people (5 internal participants, 10 external NHS participants, 1 trainer)
- Expenses for the trainer
- Any venue costs you are charged (most people are utilising postgraduate facilities)
- You receive £1,000 in fees resulting from the external participants
- Total course cost is thus actually a profit of £250 less the expenses – essentially free
EXAMPLE 2
Based on 10 internal staff attending, with up to 10 places offered through our Open Course Schedule. Let's assume again we successfully fill either 5 or 10 further places.
Based on 5 external places filled, your costs would be
- £750 + VAT basic course fee
- £500 + VAT for 5 extra internal participants
- Catering for 16 people (10 internal participants, 5 external NHS participants, 1 trainer)
- Expenses for the trainer
- Any venue costs you are charged (most people are utilising postgraduate facilities)
- You receive £500 in fees resulting from the external participants
- Total course cost is thus £750 + VAT + expenses, or £75 + VAT per internal person
Based on 10 external places filled, your costs would be
- £750 + VAT basic course fee
- £500 + VAT for 5 extra internal participants
- Catering for 21 people (10 internal participants, 10 external NHS participants, 1 trainer)
- Expenses for the trainer
- Any venue costs you are charged (most people are utilising postgraduate facilities)
- You receive £1,000 in fees resulting from the external participants
- Total course cost is thus £250 + VAT + expenses, or £25 + VAT per internal person
It's important for you to understand the likelihood of achieving 5 or 10 external places. Without any guarantees (we are as subject to things like MTAS problems etc as anyone), we are really quite likely to achieve 5 external places on either 1 or 2 courses. On our own courses, we are achieving an average of around 10, up to 20 depending on course type and location, although it is also important to remember that this could have included some of your own staff, had you not organised the course. We are confident of the following percentages:
- 75+% likelihood of achieving 5 external participants on each course
- 50% likelihood of achieving 8 external participants on any particular course
- 35% likelihood of achieving 10 external participants on each course
Once we have course dates settled, there are things you can do to help ensure we hit our target numbers:
- Plan the course for an accessible location – good train, road or bus links
- Circulate information (which we can provide) to other specialty tutors/ consultants/ colleagues in the region encouraging them to pass it on – most people are delighted because local courses are easier and reduce expenses. They also like getting together with their regional colleagues.
- Placing information in the Region's postgraduate centres
It's important to ensure that courses don't compete, and so we are careful about what we commit to. It does mean it's important to get in early, especially for the more popular topics.
